Resumes

A good resume tells a story of your life and highlights your best traits.  Even if you have limited or no work experience, you have more to share than you may realize.  Think about your educational background, college courses, volunteer experience, clubs, sports, grade point, special skills, character traits, and hobbies that you could include.  Consider writing a goal or objective for the job you seek or to showcase your writing ability.  There are many ways to make your resume stand out above others.  Paying attention to the layout and making sure it is free from errors will be essential.  Make sure you print it on nice resume paper.  Stop by our office to pick up a couple of sheets!  Get ready for our annual Mock Interview Day coming soon on Tuesday, November 27th.  Area employers and community leaders will be on campus to help you practice your interview skills.

Andre Norman

We hosted an awesome speaker today, Andre Norman, who gave an inspiring message on the benefits of education.  He explained how a degree can take you all over the world and being educated makes one--universal.  Thanks, Andre, for a capivating presentation.  Our students loved it!

Improvement

Sometimes I think the word "Success" is overrated.  I much prefer the word "Improvement."  With improvement, you can feel good about yourself on a daily basis.  With improvement you can achieve greater goals each day, month, or year.  Success sometimes seems far away or elusive to me, but I can always count on Improvement.  It is just one mental mind game you can try.  Set your goals high but rate your success on IMPROVEMENT.  You will not feel so overwhelmed when the goal seems far away when improvement is your only measurement.  Before you know it, you will have reached the goal--then you can talk about success--and that's just common sense to me!

SMART

I feel smart!  Do you feel smart?  Being smart has taken a back seat to "acting bad" in many traditional public school settings.  Fortunately, at OTC Middle College, being smart is cool once again. Students no longer have to hide that they are  truly, definitely, absolutely SMART!  There are all different kinds of smart.  Let your brain power shine in school or the workplace this fall.  Embrace being smart!  Be proud of being smart, and always consider your actions through the lens of Common Sense.  She can be your best friend.
